'Don't want to waste' - £50m Premier League gem in come-and-get-me plea amid Wolves 'talks…

Liverpool could soon receive contact from Wolves as Arne Slot is expected to sanction a significant transfer.

Wolverhampton Wanderers will be on red alert as one of their reported transfer targets has admitted he’s highly considering a move this summer.

The Old Gold are expected to be busy in the market during the next few months as head coach Vitor Pereira takes on his first summer in charge. Matheus Cunha will need to be replaced following his £62.5 million transfer to Manchester United and the same can be said for Rayan Ait-Nouri as he’s set to join Manchester City in a £33 million deal.

Wolves have seen their transfer budget bolstered but it won’t be easy to replace such key players. There are other areas in the squad that need addressing, too, as Pereira seeks to get Wanderers pushing up into top-half contention and eventually European reckoning.

One player who has been linked as a potential replacement for Cunha, albeit a little less attacking-minded, is Liverpool’s Harvey Elliott. The 22-year-old played a bit-part role in the Reds’ title-winning season as he made just one Premier League start under Arne Slot. A lengthy injury at the start of the campaign didn’t help his case, but Elliott still expected to accumulate more than 360 minutes in the top flight.

It was a complete contrast to the season before that - Jurgen Klopp’s last - as Elliott made 53 appearances across all competitions in 2023/24. The midfielder started 11 Premier League games and almost every fixture in the Europa League, showcasing his productivity with four goals and 14 assists.

Wolves were reported to have “accelerated talks” to sign Elliott a few weeks ago. Although the speculation has died down somewhat, Birmingham World understands the former Fulham man remains on the shortlist and could yet be formally targeted. And, with the rumours flying about, the player himself has admitted his future could lie away from Anfield.

“It’s just a situation that me and the team on my behalf have to have a conversation about, because I’m coming to an age now where I’m 22, I’m going to be 23 next season, and I don’t really want to be wasting years of my career, because it’s a short career,” Elliott said, via Sky Sports.

“If that’s to go somewhere else, then it’s a decision I’m going to have to make and I just need to see what happens. Nothing makes me want to leave. I love the club, I love the fans, the team. I support them as well. But as I said, most importantly, it’s about what’s best for my career. I just need to make that decision.”

Wolves are yet to make any formal bids for Elliott but that could change in the coming weeks and months if they decide the Liverpool man is the best target to pursue. The finances of a possible deal could be tricky as the Reds reportedly want around £50 million to let Elliott leave, but, as with many transfers, compromises can often be sought.
