could have a big decision to make with regards to their summer transfer plans in the near future.

United have until Tuesday to get some early transfer business over the line before the window closes ahead of the Club World Cup. The transfer window will reopen again on June 16 and remain so for the rest of the summer, which will give United more than two months to get their squad ready for the 2025/26 campaign.

News emerged last week that Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo is a target for United this summer. The Manchester Evening News reported that United want to sign Mbeumo, with the Cameroon international also thought to be keen on a move to Old Trafford. A £55million opening bid was turned down by the Bees last week.

However, recent days have seen the possibility of United signing Mbeumo become slightly less likely. This is due to the future of Brentford manager Thomas Frank, with reports suggesting that he is expected to replace Ange Postecoglou as the new manager at Tottenham Hotspur.

As a result, Spurs have now been heavily linked with signing Mbeumo and have been widely tipped to beat United to the signing of the versatile forward this summer. If that was to happen, it would leave United to look at alternative targets in the transfer market.

Given Mbeumo's ability to perform as a striker, as well as a winger, United could turn to signing a new No.9. Sporting Lisbon star Viktor Gyokeres has been heavily linked with a move to United over the last few months, with rumours seemingly ramping up in recent weeks.

Gyokeres is thought to have a release clause worth €100million (£84million) in his contract at Sporting. There have been reports, though, that have claimed the Portuguese club could allow Gyokeres to leave for a fee closer to £60million.

United boss Ruben Amorim also coached Gyokeres during his time as Sporting manager, which has only fuelled the rumours that he could bring the striker to United.

If United do go on to miss out on signing Mbeumo, they could then turn their attention to signing Gyokeres instead to bolster their forward options. With just over 24 hours until the first phase of the summer transfer window closes, it remains to be seen what United will manage to get over the line or wait to complete until later in the summer.
