The Green Bay Packers made a difficult decision on Monday morning. After an offseason full of rumors, the team decided to move on from longtime star cornerback Jaire Alexander.
Early on in the offseason, it was reported that the Packers were open to trading Alexander. Those reports then grew into potentially cutting him if the team was unable to find a trade partner.
Following the early stage of searching for a trade partner or potentially releasing him, Green Bay was looking likely to keep him for the 2025 season. Unfortunately for fans who wanted him to remain with the team, that didn't happen.
Alexander will officially be looking for a new team ahead of the upcoming season.
More details have been revealed about the Packers' decision to release the 28-year-old cornerback.
According to a report from NFL insider Albert Breer, Green Bay offered Alexander a restructured contract before opting to release him. He was not willing to accept that offer.

Over the last two years, Alexander has been completely derailed by injuries. He has played in just seven games in each season.
Last year in seven games, Alexander recorded 16 tackles, one fumble recovery, two interceptions, a defensive touchdown, and seven defended passes. Those numbers proved that he's still capable of playing at a very high level when healthy.
With the star cornerback now available on the open market, it's likely he will have a long list of teams with interest in signing him. Alexander is one of the best defensive backs in the NFL when he's not hit with injury trouble, which bodes well for him to find a new opportunity quickly.
