Why Thomas Frank replacing Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham Hotspur is really good news for…

Tottenham Hotspur are set to appoint Thomas Frank as their new manager following Ange Postecoglou’s sacking.

Despite beating Manchester United to win the Europa League last month, Daniel Levy decided to part ways with Postecoglou.

The North Londoners have identified Brentford’s Frank as the man they want, and an announcement is expected imminently.

But, why is that managerial change good news for Everton?

Ange Postecoglou was the one pushing Tottenham to sign Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite

Jarrad Branthwaite has been heavily linked with an exit in recent months, with doubts over his future first emerging after being left out of Thomas Tuchel’s England squad.

It was reported at the time that Branthwaite felt he may need to leave Everton for a Champions League club to ensure his spot at the World Cup next summer.

Manchester United’s interest is well documented, and Tottenham Hotspur have been showing an interest in Branthwaite recently.

There is an understanding that Ange Postecoglou was behind Spurs’ interest and has been for the last 12 months or so.

His departure could result in interest being cooled, leaving Everton better placed to fend off suitors and tie him down to a new contract.

Moyes wants to build the team around Branthwaite

Moyes wants to build the team around Branthwaite next season, indicating that the Friedkin Group are unlikely to sanction his sale.

It would certainly have to be a world-record fee for a defender to tempt Everton, and given Man United’s PSR constraints, that seems off the table for them.

Chelsea have been linked with Branthwaite, too, but the West Londoners also have their eye on Southampton’s Taylor Harwood-Bellis and Leicester City’s Ben Nelson, who Enzo Maresca has previously worked with.

Plus, it’s understood that the 22-year-old is happy on Merseyside and the football club is very much on the up under the Friedkins’ stewardship.
