How Nottingham Forest feel about selling Anthony Elanga to Newcastle United

Newcastle United are eager to sign Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest, but a deal will be difficult.

The Swedish winger is back on the Magpies’ radar, with Eddie Howe interested in Elanga once again.

Newcastle tried to sign Elanga in 2024, but could not agree a deal with Nottingham Forest. They are hoping for a different result in 2025, with Newcastle valuing Elanga at £35million.

However, PIF will need to pay more than that to bring the 23-year-old to St James’ Park.

Nottingham Forest do not need to sell Anthony Elanga

That is according to TBR Football’s chief correspondent Graeme Bailey, who has admitted to Geordie Boot Boys that it will be ‘tough’ for Newcastle United to strike a deal for Anthony Elanga.

“He is very much on Newcastle’s list and is a player they like from what I am told,” he said.

“Obviously he will come at a price. I do not believe it will be under £60million, which is the precedent that has been set. He is younger than Cunha and Mbeumo, who are costing similar.

“Newcastle have not opened talks, but it is one to keep an eye on. They bid for him last year, which we already know.

“Forest do not want to sell Elanga, nor do they need to sell, I believe. They have signed these three Brazilian players, but they have covered that with the sale of Danilo.

“It will be tough to get Elanga out of Nottingham Forest this summer, but every player has their price.”

Elanga’s record compared to Newcastle United’s current wingers

This is the second summer transfer window in a row that Newcastle United have targeted Elanga. He is clearly a player who Eddie Howe thinks can have a positive impact in a black and white shirt.

The Sweden international is linked with joining Newcastle United on the back of an excellent season with Forest, having helped them qualify for Europe.

Elanga provided 11 Premier League assists, which is only one fewer than Jacob Murphy. That is certainly encouraging, as Elanga would arrive at St James’ Park to compete with Murphy for a place in the starting XI.

Appearances Goals Assists

Anthony Elanga 43 6 12

Jacob Murphy 41 9 14

Anthony Gordon 42 9 7

Harvey Barnes 40 9 5

His numbers are very impressive, and that is why Forest are in a strong position to command a huge fee for their player. While everyone has a price, Newcastle United will likely be reluctant to meet Forest’s demands.
