Report: Clippers Called About Potentially Trading for 15-Time All-Star

It seems the Los Angeles Clippers are wasting no time as they attempt to add another star to their roster for the 2025-26 NBA season.

There was a rumor earlier in the offseason that the the Clippers would be "hunting a name" this summer.

There have been a few interesting options brought up in the time since the Clippers' 2024-25 season come to an end in the first round of the playoffs.

It turns out that they have already put in a call about potentially trading for the biggest name they've been linked to.

According to NBA writer Matt Moore, the Clippers have called the Phoenix Suns about making a move for Kevin Durant.

They are looking for bigger fish to fry, though I think a deal ultimately is unlikely. Instead of revealing the shocker that they’re a team that has talks with Phoenix about KD, how about this: they, like everyone else in the league, has called Phoenix about KD and just happen to be one of the teams that those talks have gotten out about.

The fit for Durant is clear. He remained an elite scorer this past season at 36 years old, posting 26.6 points per game on 52.7% from the field and 43% from three.

They Clippers finished 20th in scoring this past season and have a starting slot open for Durant at power forward.

He also fits well with the team's current timeline to contend. Kawhi Leonard has two years left on his contract. James Harden is expected to get a deal with a similar length if he turns down his player option for next season.

Durant has a year left on his current contract, but could be extended for another year to fit the team's window.

The big issue is going to be the market for Durant now that Giannis Antetokounmpo seems to be unavailable. That could drive Durant's price up to a point where the Clippers can't compete.

It sounds like the Clippers are interested. The fit is there. The big question is if they can get a deal done while potentially bidding against some of the Western Conference's other top teams.
