**It was just 12 months ago that Newcastle United were desperately scrambling for inventive ways to plug a £70 million gap in their accounts to ensure they didn't breach the Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).**
In what was ultimately a sickening time to be a Newcastle fan, the Magpies floated the idea of selling Anthony Gordon to Liverpool (absolutely shattering his concentration it seems), but ultimately opted to release Dan Ashworth from his garden and let Brighton and Nottingham Forest take two of our most promising young players in Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson, respectively.
For a club with the financial backing of one of the richest entities in the world, it was so annoying that this was happening, and while this year is markedly better, we still can't spend anywhere near as much as we should be able to.
So while we clearly don't agree with PSR, we can't escape the reality that it is here, and as such, we'd be insane not to take advantage when other clubs are fighting off the oppressive overlords like we did last season.

Newcastle are reportedly keen on Jacob Ramsey
Newcastle could pounce for Jacob Ramsey as Aston Villa struggle with PSR

Aston Villa are one of the clubs teetering on the edge of breaching PSR this year, and Newcastle are hoping to exploit this by making a move for Jacob Ramsey.
According to [Sky Sports in Switzerland](https://www.sky-sport.ch/fr/articles/leon-bailey-jacob-ramsey-mathis-abline-beto-voici-les-infos-transferts-de-la-semaine/), Unai Emery doesn't see Ramsey as being 'indispensable', and they go on to say that the Magpies are interested and could scoop up Ramsey for just £30 million.
We can see the appeal on the surface, but when we really think about it, would this be a good move for Newcastle? We aren't so sure.
It's a no from us and here's why
--------------------------------
First off, there's the obvious: Jacob Ramsey's most comfortable position is that of a left-winger, a position for which we're pretty much set with Anthony Gordon and Harvey Barnes. Although we'd be lying if we said we were confident that both of those players would still be at the club next season.
The other issue we have is that we would be helping out Aston Villa by taking one of their players - a move by Newcastle would get them out of the PSR hole, which could otherwise land a close rival with a points deduction next season. Is it unsporting and borderline sinister? Absolutely, but the other 19 clubs have hardly been eager to help Newcastle out since our PIF-backed takeover, have they?
Finally, we're not convinced that Jacob Ramsey really improves our squad. We're likely to sell Joe Willock because he can't seem to cut it under Eddie Howe - is Ramsey any better? We don't think so. That being said, it is our resident Aston Villa hater, Mark, who has convinced us that Ramsey is bang average, and his views are certainly not untainted.
