Manchester United are looking to strengthen the forward line with Rasmus Hojlund addressing rumours about his future.

Football clubs are always looking to sign the next superstar and Manchester United are no different which is why they took a £72m punt on Rasmus Hojlund.

The 22-year old arrived from Atalanta with a growing reputation and it was hoped that the Viking-esque Dane could be the future of Utd’s forward line only to be thrown in at the deep end immediately and expected to deliver.

With a goal contribution every three games and only 26 league goals in nearly 100 appearances in the Premier League, things haven’t gone according to plan. Instability in the dugout and on the pitch hasn’t helped though.

Rasmus Hojlund breaks silence on Man Utd exit reports

Asked after drawing a blank on international duty for Denmark if there was any truth to the rumours linking him with a move to Inter, he said via Bold: "I have a contract until 2030, so I expect to play for Manchester United. I’m looking forward to going on a summer vacation, and then I’m fully dedicated to the project that’s underway.”

Pressed further on the arrival of Cuhna and possible love for Mbuemo threatening his future at Man Utd he replied: "As I’ve told you before, I try to stay away from all that," he added. "Because it’s both for better and for worse these days."

Why Man Utd should persevere with Hojlund and fight the urge to cash in

It’s worth remembering just how highly rated Hojlund was when he first signed for United with Owen Hargreaves clearly a fan of the 6ft 3inch tall powerhouse, via TNT Sports:

“He’s a hell of a player, only young but his profile is big. Strong, he’s quick, lightning quick. There’s a clip on YouTube, he was playing against Lazio, I think it was their own corner , on a counterattack and he sprinted by the whole team. You know when you’re a kid, when you’re the fastest of the under-12s. It literally looked like that, but he’s a good finisher so I’m excited for him because he’s got the perfect physical profile.

“So’s Marcus Rashford, Jaden [Sancho], Antony and Bruno Fernandes,[Christian] Eriksen and Casemiro. Goalscoring is Manchester United’s biggest issue and I think he can address that.

“He’s always going to have to fight that stereotype because of his physical profile, the Scandinavian thing and he’s a hell of a goalscorer. I think they’re going to be put together, but what Erling Haaland’s doing is going to be hard to replicate for anyone. Twenty-five goals and he will have had a fantastic debut season.”

Hojlund managed 16 goals in 43 appearances in his first season with the major problem being the weight of expectation. The 22-times capped Dane is young enough to still come good and there should be scope for keeping him as part of a new-look forward line.

With less of a burden, it might free him up and take him out of the firing line plus, Man Utd’s fans know only too well that having quality competition in the squad drives up standards. There has also never been any doubt about Hojlund’s committment to the cause.

Whether or not Hojlund will be given the chance is another story.
