Those around the association are paying close attention to Brad Stevens and the Celtics.
The Green are expected to make changes this offseason given their historic payroll and the likelihood Jayson Tatum misses significant time in 2025-26. What those changes will look like, however, is still unknown to those around the NBA.
“Whenever I talk to teams about Boston, they’re almost viewed as a target where they’ve got a little something for everybody,” Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix said on NBC Sports Boston’s offseason Celtics show.
Mannix referenced Sam Hauser as the most likely candidate to be traded and reported Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis also are available.

“I just think teams are waiting to see how deep the cuts with Boston are going to go,” Mannix said. “We all know they’re going to slice away some of this payroll.”

Mannix added: “Teams I’ve talked to just aren’t fully sure what Boston wants to do. Do they want to just nibble around the fringes and get under the second apron, or do they really want to reboot this thing, take that full gap year, and go into 2026-27 with Jayson Tatum and some other stuff as the centerpiece of the team?”
NBA teams are allowed to start negotiating with free agents June 30, which also figures to be a date the Celtics will keep in mind as it relates to their core under contract.
