Arsenal have emerged as a surprise contender to sign Manchester United’s talented winger Alejandro Garnacho, according to CaughtOffside. The 20-year-old Argentina international has reportedly been told he can leave Old Trafford this summer, as new manager Ruben Amorim looks to reshape his squad.

Garnacho’s future has been in doubt since Amorim’s arrival, with tensions between the two escalating in recent weeks. The winger was excluded from United’s final Premier League matchday squad and featured for just 19 minutes in their Europa League final loss to Tottenham. According to The Mirror, Amorim bluntly told Garnacho in front of teammates to “pray” he finds a new club, effectively signalling the end of his time at United.

Representatives of the player have since contacted Arsenal to explore a potential move, with Garnacho keen to stay in the Premier League. The Gunners, alongside Chelsea, have made initial inquiries, although reports suggest Chelsea currently lead the race. However, Arsenal are firmly in the mix as they aim to strengthen their forward line ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

Garnacho is seen as a strong competitor for Gabriel Martinelli on the left flank, where Arsenal lacked consistent productivity last season. With a reported price tag of £60–70 million, signing Garnacho would be a substantial outlay, but his homegrown status under Premier League rules could offer Arsenal some financial leeway in their squad planning.

The Argentine starlet enjoyed an impressive 2024/25 season, scoring 11 goals and delivering several standout performances, including his stunning bicycle kick against Everton that won the Premier League’s Goal of the Season award. Mikel Arteta is believed to be an admirer of his pace, flair, and attacking versatility.

Despite their interest, Arsenal face competition from several clubs. Napoli made a £40 million offer for Garnacho in January, while Aston Villa and Bayer Leverkusen are also reportedly monitoring the situation. Moreover, CaughtOffside notes that Arsenal may still prioritise a move for Real Madrid’s Rodrygo, with other targets like AC Milan’s Rafael Leão, Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, and Athletic Club’s Nico Williams also on their radar.

The fallout between Garnacho and Amorim has only intensified speculation of a transfer. Reports suggest Garnacho expressed dissatisfaction over his role in the Europa League final, and his brother publicly accused Amorim of “throwing him under the bus”, a remark that underlined the growing rift between the player and the club.

With United open to cashing in on the winger to fund other transfers, Garnacho’s exit looks increasingly likely and Arsenal may be poised to capitalise on the opportunity.
