Eagles Could Sign Former Packers Star Cornerback

Per a report by Ian Rapoport on X, the Green Bay Packers are cutting franchise cornerback Jaire Alexander, but he is not likely to be a free agent for very long.

In a recent article by PFF's Trevor Sikkema, he lists six potential landing spots for the two-time Pro Bowl defensive back, and one of the teams he thinks could be a potential suitor are the reigning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles.

"We have to throw this one in here because, well, it’s the Eagles. Part of their run to the Super Bowl last year was capitalizing on players like this becoming available and forming the best team in the league," Sikkema wrote. "The Eagles have Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean in their secondary, two players who were excellent as rookie starters in 2024... Perhaps Alexander would take a big discount to be the veteran in the room for a team looking for another title."

The Eagles cut veteran cornerback Darius Slay earlier this offseason, so the team could use someone to step in and fill his spot.

Alexander has dealt with a number of injuries the past several seasons, so his last full season was in 2022. In 16 games that year, he was able to tally up a solid 56 total tackles, with 43 of them being solo. He was also able to show his incredibly ball-hawk skills with 14 passes defended and five interceptions.

There's a good chance this is the cheapest that Alexander is going to be after his short seasons in 2023 and 2024, so it could be an intriguing option for the Eagles to pounce and sign the veteran.
