Saudi Pro League heavyweights Al-Hilal have reportedly joined the race to sign RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, intensifying the battle for the in-demand Slovenian forward. The 22-year-old, who scored 21 goals in all competitions last season, has been closely monitored by Arsenal, with the Gunners believed to be in advanced talks over a £60m–£70m deal.

Sesko has long been a top target for Mikel Arteta, as Arsenal seek to bolster their attacking options following three consecutive second-place finishes in the Premier League. Sporting director Andrea Berta is spearheading the pursuit, with Arsenal viewed as frontrunners in negotiations with both RB Leipzig and the player’s representatives.

However, Al-Hilal’s surprise move could complicate matters. The Saudi giants, known for their ambitious recruitment strategy, are said to be preparing a massive financial offer for both Leipzig and Sesko, after missing out on Napoli’s Victor Osimhen. The club sees Sesko as a marquee signing to further boost the league’s profile.

Leipzig are reportedly open to selling Sesko, especially after failing to qualify for the 2025/26 Champions League. The club has placed a £60m–£70m price tag on the striker, who remains under contract until 2029. In a sign that a transfer could be close, Leipzig have also requested his omission from Slovenia’s upcoming friendly against Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Despite the financial lure of Saudi Arabia, Arsenal remain confident in their project. Sky Germany journalist Philipp Hinze confirmed the Gunners are the only club in “concrete” discussions, giving them an edge over Manchester United and Chelsea, who have also expressed interest.

Arteta reportedly prefers Sesko over Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres, valuing the Leipzig striker’s pace, physicality, and long-term potential. Arsenal are keen to wrap up a deal before their pre-season tour of Asia kicks off on July 19, hoping to integrate him swiftly into the squad.

The decision now lies with Sesko, who must choose between the opportunity to develop under Arteta in the Premier League and Champions League or accept a lucrative offer and a starring role in the fast-rising Saudi Pro League.
