Report: Long-term Man Utd target could secure Italian switch as£15m Chelsea pursuit brings knock-on effect

Manchester United are exploring the goalkeeper market this summer but one target could end up joining AC Milan.

So much of the focus around Manchester United is on adding attacking numbers to Ruben Amorim’s squad.

Matheus Cunha has joined United and Amorim is seeking more quality in the final third, with Bryan Mbeumo seeking a move to Old Trafford.

United are also looking for goalkeeping options with Altay Bayindir expected to depart this summer.

Andre Onana’s poor campaign means he is not guaranteed to stay either, meaning United may yet target two goalkeepers rather than just one.

AC Milan want Manchester United target Zion Suzuki

United have looked at Mile Svilar of Roma, but are also constantly linked with a move for Parma stopper Zion Suzuki.

Reports from Japan in the summer of 2023 suggested that United were poised to sign Suzuki after catching the eye for Urawa Red Diamonds.

Suzuki claims that he snubbed United as he instead completed a move to Belgium, joining Sint-Truiden.

First-team football in Belgium aided Suzuki’s development and saw him leave for Parma last summer.

Suzuki has continued to shine in Italy and the 22-year-old stopper now finds himself in demand.

United have again been linked with Suzuki, but AC Milan are now showing a real interest.

Gazzetta dello Sport’s Luca Bianchin reports that Milan are eyeing up a move for Suzuki as a replacement for Mike Maignan.

Chelsea are moving to sign Maignan and Suzuki’s impressive displays for Parma mean a move to the San Siro is a real possibility.

The Blues are closing in on Maignan, with an €18million (£15million) deal close according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

‘Parma’s Zion Suzuki is one of the goalkeepers being evaluated by Milan as a replacement for Maignan,’ said Bianchin.

United may need to be quick if Suzuki is on the summer wish list, but that may be tricky until Onana or Bayindir move on.

Manchester United goalkeeping state of play

Onana has received interest from Saudi Arabia and hasn’t particularly impressed during his two years at Old Trafford.

A departure doesn’t appear to be imminent, and the same goes for Bayindir.

The Turkish international has spent the last two years as a backup goalkeeper at United, and he may now be ready for first-team action elsewhere.

Tom Heaton is in talks to stay with United, though young stopper Hubert Graczyk has been allowed to leave.

Royal Antwerp’s Senne Lammens is on United’s radar and Benfica’s Anatoliy Trubin had been eyed by the Red Devils.

United have considered re-signing Vanja Milinkovic-Savic from Torino, with two goalkeepers potentially required this summer, depending on exits.
