On paper, Real Madrid have arguably one of, if not the most well rounded squad in all of Europe. With world class players from back to front and even world class players on the bench, it can be hard to find a weakness in this Real Madrid team.
However, to those who watched Real Madrid play last season they know where the weakness lays, in the midfield. After the retirement of Toni Kroos Real Madrid lost their ace in midfield and the player they ran their midfield through.
Kroos' tempo controlling and passing range used to unlock defenses was clearly missed last season as Real Madrid tried everything they could to replicate what the German did but they failed. With that being said, Los Blancos have been scouring the transfer market for their Kroos replacement, and they seem to have found their man and plan to hijack one of the most talked about moves this summer.
Real Madrid plot hijack of major Arsenal signing by request of Xabi Alonso
As being reported by Marca, Real Madrid are pushing to sign Arsenal target Martin Zubimendi in a late plot to hijack the Spaniard's move to the London club. Real Madrid have reportedly reached out to his camp in recent days to strike a deal with the midfielder.
Zubimendi has been a long know target for Arsenal with many believing his signing with the Premier League side was all but a done deal, but that doesn't seem to be the case and it seems everything has changed.
Los Blancos have also been long-time admirers of Zubimendi as they view him as their ideal Toni Kroos replacement in the midfield. His calmness on the ball and ability to control the tempo of the play is exactly what the club was missing last season which is why Xabi Alonso has requested the club sign him at all costs.
The midfielder has a €60 million release clause in his contract which makes him a somewhat costly yet still attractive midfield option for Real Madrid. With the summer transfer window fast approaching, whether Zubimendi will join Dean Huijsen and Trent Alexander-Arnold as new Real Madrid signings remains to be seen.
