Former Pistons Guard Reportedly Eyeing Big Overseas Opportunity

The Detroit Pistons' backcourt has been a popular offseason topic in the Motor City with NBA free agency set to begin in less than a month. With veteran guards Tim Hardaway Jr., Dennis Schroder, and Malik Beasley all set to hit the open market on July 6, there's a good chance that the Pistons' backcourt will look different come September than it did at the end of the season.

As the Pistons continue to navigate their current backcourt's future, one of the franchise's former guards appears to be gearing up for the next chapter of his basketball career... overseas.

Former Pistons Guard Malachi Flynn Targeted by Turkey's Bahcesehir

On Friday, international basketball insider Luca D'Alessandro reported that Turkish club Bahcesehir has given former Pistons guard Malachi Flynn a "one-year, $1 million offer" to play next season. D'Alessandro added that "EuroLeague teams are also monitoring his case."

Flynn is a former first-round pick who was drafted 20th overall by the Toronto Raptors in 2020. The former San Diego State product has since played games with the Raptors, New York Knicks, and Charlotte Hornets, as well as the Pistons during the 2023-24 season.

Flynn made his way to Detroit as a part of a six-player, two-pick trade with the Knicks in February 2024, and it's safe to say his brief time in the Motor City was a rollercoaster ride, to say the least.

Although his averaging 8.0 points and 2.1 assists with .430/.316/.684 shooting splits wasn't much to write home about, Flynn's tenure included the unforgettable moment when he scored a career-high 50 points off the bench against the Atlanta Hawks on Apr. 4, 2024. Unfortunately, he's yet to come close to replicating that performance since then.

The 2024-25 season was all over the place for Flynn. Aside from a lackluster four-game run with the Hornets, the 27-year-old guard spent most of the campaign with the NBA G League's Austin Spurs. He impressively averaged 22.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 1.7 steals while shooting 50.2% from the floor and 40.9% from deep in 26 games, leaving time to reveal if he can find similar success in Turkey.

If Flynn does sign with Bahcesehir and his G League success translates into positive results overseas, it might not be long until an NBA franchise contacts the ex-Pistons guard about a potential North American return.
