**The rumours surrounding Newcastle United's interest in Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga are heating up once again following a late attempt to sign the Sweden international last summer.**
Newcastle look to have already missed out on Bryan Mbeumo, who was said to be their primary focus this summer. The Cameroonian has opted to join Manchester United, and a deal is said to be in the works for the move to go ahead.
The Magpies had backed away from pursuing the Brentford winger when it became apparent just how costly the deal would be, however, Eddie Howe will still have to part with a significant sum initially should he want to sign a winger of a similar quality.
Newcastle can only hope, really, that not every player has pound signs in their eyes like Mbeumo, who is expected to command a ridiculous wage at Old Trafford.

Anthony Elanga could cost north of £60m
Graeme Bailey says a deal for Anthony Elanga will not be easy
-------------------------------------------------------------
Now that it appears that Anthony Elanga is Newcastle's Plan B, transfer journalist Graeme Bailey has told [Geordie Boot Boys](https://www.geordiebootboys.com/transfers/how-nottingham-forest-feel-about-selling-anthony-elanga-to-newcastle-united/) that a deal for Elanga will be anything but straightforward.
> “He is very much on Newcastle’s list and is a player they like from what I am told.“Obviously he will come at a price. I do not believe it will be under £60million, which is the precedent that has been set. He is younger than Cunha and Mbeumo, who are costing similar.“Newcastle have not opened talks, but it is one to keep an eye on. They bid for him last year, which we already know.“Forest do not want to sell Elanga, nor do they need to sell, I believe. They have signed these three Brazilian players, but they have covered that with the sale of Danilo.

Nottingham Forest owes us after last year
-----------------------------------------
The fact that Forest doesn't need to sell is what will cause Newcastle the biggest issue, although we should gently remind them that they owe us one after giving them £20 million for Odysseas Vlachodimos last year, saving them from a PSR breach.
I know they gave us £35 million for Elliot Anderson for the same reasons, but come on, they got the far, FAR, better deal there.
We still feel that if Newcastle truly want Elanga, they'll make it happen, but if we pay over £60 million for him, he had better score and assist on his Premier League debut to ease our tensions.
