“Just Like Antonio” | Beast Mk2 Linked With Hammers again

West Ham have once again been linked with a very familiar name to replace Michail Antonio, whose Hammers exit now looks increasingly certain.

As reported earlier, 35-year-old Antonio and the club have failed to agree terms on a new contract, and he is expected to depart on 30th June.

Now, whilst there may be nothing concrete in the latest reports from the French media, speculation is mounting that West Ham are eyeing Monaco striker Breel Embolo as a potential replacement. If his name rings a bell, it’s because the Swiss international has been linked with a move to the London Stadium several times before.

Martin covered the story yesterday which is now starting to gain more traction on the other side of the English Channel. Whether that is because of West Ham’s announcement today regarding Antonio’s future is unknown, but the rumour is sticking around like a nasty case Youssef En-Nesyri-itis.

Embolo has been linked with a move to East London for 5 years running

In many respects, the 28-year-old shares a similar playing style to Antonio—pace, power, and direct running. Although he had an underwhelming campaign in Ligue 1 last season, Embolo was back in top form just days ago, tearing through Mexico’s defence in a 4-2 friendly win.

West Ham’s Edson Álvarez started that game on the bench for Mexico but will no doubt have noticed Embolo’s impressive display of strength and powerful running.

Whether that performance reignited the Hammers’ interest is unclear, but this is a transfer rumour that never seems to go away.
