Former Packers QB Pitches Trade That Lands Titans Pro Bowl TE

The Tennessee Titans appear to be back on track after a tough last three seasons. The franchise hasn't had a great franchise quarterback since the days of Steve McNair, but they're hoping that'll change after selecting Cam Ward with the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

The Titans have paid a lot of money to try and keep Ward protected with investments on the offensive line, but they could possibly use more weapons on offense. Tight end Chigoziem Okonkwo has started 30 games for the Titans over the last three seasons, and fourth-round pick Gunnar Helm could have a bright future.

Even with those two on the roster, former Green Bay Packers quarterback Kurt Benkert thinks Tennessee needs to swing a trade that would send a sixth-round pick to the Miami Dolphins for tight end Jonnu Smith.

"Give me Jonnu Smith to the Titans," Benkert said on Bleacher Report, via TitansWire. "Now, what does a young quarterback in Cam Ward need more than anything in my opinion? I think he needs a tight end that can ball out and make plays and doesn't rely on him to be perfect. The best quarterbacks in the league have a tight end as someone they can rely on in some way, shape or form, and I think the Titans would do Cam Ward justice by going out and getting a guy who can be that guy for him from day one."

Smith was drafted by the Titans in 2017 and spent four years with the team. He had a breakout year with the Dolphins in 2024 and had 88 catches for 884 yards, which led to his first Pro Bowl selection. He'd certainly be a good security blanket for Ward to have during his rookie season.
