SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah Jazz are promoting two members of the Salt Lake City Stars front office to fill larger roles within the organization.
According to HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto, Marquis Newman will be promoted to Director of Pro Scouting for the Jazz, while Katie Benzan will fill Newman’s role as the General Manager for the Stars.

Newman has spent 11 years with Utah,” Scotto reported. “Benzan is the second current female G League GM and played for the WNBA’s Mystics before joining the Jazz in 2022.”

Utah Jazz Reportedly Make Front Office Promotions
Newman has been with the Jazz since 2014, when he was hired as a Basketball Operations Assistant before being promoted to Coordinator of Pro Scouting in 2018.
A graduate of Cyprus High School, Newman was named General Manager of the Stars in 2022, helping lead the team to back-to-back playoff appearances with head coach Steve Wojciechowski in 2024 and 2025.

Newman attended the University of Utah, where he majored in Business Administration and Management.
Benzan fills Newman’s role after serving as the Assistant General Manager for the Stars over the last year.

She’s also one of the best shooters in college history.

The Jazz added Benzan to their front office staff in 2022 after a successful college and pro basketball career.
Benzan played three years at Harvard before finishing her career at the University of Maryland, where she played from 2020-2022.

After college, Benzan played three games for the Washington Mystics, becoming the first Dominican player in league history.
Benzan first joined the Jazz as a Basketball Generalist in 2022 before being promoted to Assistant General Manager for the Stars in 2024.
The reported promotions come on the heels of the Jazz hiring Austin Ainge as the team’s President of Basketball Operations.
