Manchester United are closing in on their second major signing of the summer in the form of Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, however, Tottenham Hotspur are now weighing in on the move.

The Red Devils are keen to sign the Cameroon international as part of the club’s remodelling of their attack.

With Rasmus Hojlund and Alejandro Garnacho reportedly having no place at the club next season, United have turned to Mbeumo as an option to bring some reliability to Old Trafford.

United have already added Matheus Cunha to their ranks for £62.5 million from Wolverhampton Wanderers, and are in continued negotiations with Brentford over Mbeumo.

Already The Red Devils seem to have fended off Newcastle in their pursuit of The Bees’ star man, however Spurs are reportedly on the periphery planning a hijack.

Tottenham Hotspur pull out of race for Bryan Mbeumo

It’s understood that Brentford manager Thomas Frank is set to be Ange Postecoglou’s successor at Spurs and as part of his move, he wants to bring Mbeumo with him.

Recent reports have suggested that Frank wants Spurs to launch a £60 million bid, matching that of United’s to sign the Brentford attacker, however United may now have some breathing room.

The Daily Mail has reported that Spurs are unlikely to enter the fight for Mbeumo, with sources revealing a pursuit for the attacker from Tottenham is “highly unlikely”.

As such, United seem to be firmly in the driving seat as they set up their negotiations for the Cameroon international, with only Brentford holding up a permanent move for Mbeumo.
