Nick Chubb signs with the Texans and ends chapter with the Browns

The chapter of Nick Chubb's NFL career with the Browns has officially come to a close, as the Texans announced Chubb has signed a deal.

Chubb was first drafted by the Browns in 2018 in the second round and spent seven seasons with Cleveland. During his time with the Browns, Chubb played an integral role in the success of the run game and cemented his name at the top of the history books.

"We want to take this opportunity to thank Nick Chubb for all he's done for the Cleveland Browns," Managing and Principal Partners Dee and Jimmy Haslam said in a statement. "For the last seven years, Nick gave everything he had to our fans, this organization and this city. He always represented our team as the consummate professional and in a manner that showed his passion and love for the game of football."

The four-time Pro Bowler has the second most 100-yard rushing games in team history with 30, as well as 51 career rushing touchdowns – the third most in team history. He also ranks third in career rushing yards by a Brown with 6,843. Chubb also has the fourth-most rushing yards in the NFL since 2018 with 6,843 rushing yards in 85 games, trailing Derrick Henry, Saquon Barkley and Josh Jacobs.

He established himself as both a fan favorite and organizational centerpiece. Coaches and players alike expressed their appreciation for Chubb's presence in the locker room and spoke of his impact on the franchise both on and off the field over the course of his career.

Chubb sustained a season-ending knee injury in Week 2 of the 2023 season, which required two separate reconstructive knee surgeries. The first, which occurred in September 2023, repaired his medial capsule, meniscus and medial collateral ligament (MCL) in order to rebuild the lining of the joint and collateral ligaments. The second took place in November 2023 to fix his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) to reconstruct the inside of his knee.

Over the next year, [Chubb spent months rehabbing to fight his way back to the football field.](https://www.clevelandbrowns.com/news/against-all-odds-the-story-of-nick-chubb-s-comeback) He did just that, as he returned in Week 7 against the Bengals of the 2024 season. He started all eight games he played in during the 2024 season, recording 102 carries for 332 yards and three touchdowns, as well as five receptions for 31 yards and one touchdown. Chubb broke his foot in Week 15 against the Chiefs, which ended his comeback season prematurely.

As Chubb continues his NFL career with the Texans, he ended his seven years in Cleveland recording 1,340 carries for 6,843 rushing yards and 51 touchdowns, as well as 128 receptions for 1,042 yards and five touchdowns.

"Nick has always been about hard work and letting his play on the field do the talking for him," Dee and Jimmy Haslam continued in the statement. "We are so grateful for the many moments he created on the field that we will never forget. One moment that stands out most is him stepping out of bounds at the 3-yard line instead of scoring after a 59-yard run to ensure a victory in a game against the Texans in 2020. Nick always puts winning above any personal accolade, and that is what makes him so special. Thank you for being a Brown, Nick, and we look forward to the day we celebrate your career as a member of our Ring of Honor."
