Here’s a random one that I doubt anyone could’ve expected or predicted, but Marcus Bettinelli looks set to join Manchester City from Chelsea. Our third-choice goalkeeper will be replacing Scott Carson at City in, presumably, a very similar role.
If there is a transfer fee involved, it’s likely to be negligible.
Bettinelli had one year left on the three-year contract he signed back in 2023. He had joined Chelsea a couple years prior to that, in 2021, coming over on a free transfer from Fulham just down the road. However, during all this time, he’s made a grand total of just one (1) appearance, way back in January 2022, starting our 5-1 win over non-league Chesterfield in the FA Cup third round. He would sit on the bench as the backup many more times, tough his primarily role was to be a mentor and a leader behind the scenes and on the training ground — a role that, by all accounts, he did quite well.
It’s unlikely that “Betts” will find more actual minutes of playing time at City but every team needs a “glue guy”, or two, and he fulfilled that role for us perfectly.
Marcus Bettinelli leaves Chelsea and joins Manchester City as new third goalkeeper.
Green light also from the player who will travel to the FIFA Club World Cup.
