The New York Knicks began their offseason by making a shocking move as they fired head coach Tom Thibodeau just three days after their playoff exit.
This was a surprising move as many around the NBA believed that they would run it back with Thibodeau manning the sidelines next season, especially after he led the franchise to their first Eastern Conference Finals appearance since 2000.

Despite this, the Knicks felt as though a change was needed and they now have a crucial decision to make regarding their next head coach.
Of course, there have been many different coaches linked to the Knicks like Jay Wright, Michael Malone and Johnnie Bryant but there is one in particular that New York is targeting.
That person is Hall of Fame point guard and current Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd.
According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, there is a mutual interest between Kidd and the Knicks.
For Kidd, he still has two years remaining on his contract in Dallas after he signed an extension after leading the Mavericks to the NBA Finals last season.
Because of this, New York will need permission from Dallas to interview him, which they have not yet turned down.
Of course, it would still be difficult for Kidd to leave Dallas and join the Knicks despite the mutual interest, though New York could entice the Mavericks by pulling off a trade for him.

If that were to happen, Kidd would take over a team that came up two games short of reaching the NBA Finals and one that should once again be a contender next season due to their core of Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns and OG Anunoby.
While that may be the case, Kidd has a great situation already in Dallas as they have built a roster that is also a contender, despite trading away Luka Doncic, which would make it a difficult decision to leave the Mavericks for the Knicks.
