Orlando Magic a Team to Watch This Offseason, Insider Says

The Orlando Magic proved they are one of the young teams that could contend for a championship in the future. They concluded the 2024-25 NBA season with a 41-41 record and played in the playoffs as the seventh seed. However, they were eliminated by the Boston Celtics in the first round.

After making the postseason in consecutive seasons, the next goal for the Magic is to determine their next step. In both playoff appearances, with Paolo Banchero as their best player, Orlando has only played in the first round.

On Monday, ESPN's Bobby Marks released an article talking about which 10 teams should be monitored during the offseason. He included the Magic as they have the chance to improve their roster.

According to Marks, the Magic's future lies on the organization's president of basketball operations, Jeff Weltman. Orlando has a few assets they can use to strengthen their roster, if they need more help.

"How the Magic take the next step depends on Weltman's adjustment when healthy, and whether Orlando can compete for a top-four seed in the Eastern Conference. The Magic went through the regular season with their top four scorers -- Paolo Banchero, Suggs, Franz Wagner and Moritz Wagner -- each missing at least 20 games," Marks wrote.

"The Magic have the draft assets and contracts to be aggressive this offseason if additional help is needed from the outside," he added."

The Magic has been linked to make a move to upgrade their backcourt. While Jalen Suggs is an excellent starting point guard, many believe a player like Trae Young or Darius Garland could be better suited to help Banchero and Franz Wagner.
