According to Michael Scotto, the Utah Jazz will promote Marquis Newman and Katie Benzan to key roles within the organization.

Scotto mentions that Newman has spent 11 years with Utah and will now become Director of Pro Scouting. This is an interesting move after Zach Lowe recently revealed the release of two former scouts for the Jazz. Utah is clearly looking to upgrade its scouting and drafting ability with the hire of Austin Ainge and must have a lot of confidence in Newman. Hopefully, Newman will be able to find those diamonds in the rough that the Jazz are seeking, as they will be making hugely important draft picks in the coming years.
Benzan becomes the second woman in the role of G League GM overseeing the Salt Lake City Stars. Benzan is being promoted from Assistant GM. The Stars have become an essential part of the Utah Jazz development system, and Benzan will be a big part of that development. The G League can be a great place to find talent to build winning rosters. A great example is what we’re seeing from Lu Dort and the vital role he’s playing on the Oklahoma City Thunder. Let’s hope Benzan can help Utah find those players that can eventually contribute to a winning Utah Jazz team in the future.
