Double Milan swoop touted as potential replacements eyed for key duo

AC Milan have reportedly set their sights on Lyon goalkeeper Lucas Perri and Arsenal defender Oleksandr Zinchenko as two key potential reinforcements this summer.

The Rossoneri are seemingly set to oversee significant changes ahead of next season with speculation rife over the futures of key individuals who are being tipped to leave.

While Tijjani Reijnders is on the verge of joining Manchester City, both Mike Maignan and Theo Hernandez could soon be following him out of the exit door with the French pair now in the final 12 months of their respective contracts.

Both have been heavily paired with an exit as the Rossoneri will surely want to avoid losing them for nothing next year if they can’t be convinced over signing new deals, and reports suggest that Milan are considering potential replacements in the event that they do move on this month.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Perri could emerge as a priority target to replace Maignan, with the 27-year-old joining Lyon in January 2024, and he’s gone on to make 49 appearances for the Ligue 1 side.

In those outings, he’s kept 15 clean sheets and conceded 63 goals, but if Milan are indeed evaluating the Brazilian shot-stopper, they’ve evidently seen characteristics and qualities in him that they like, and believe will make him a good fit for Massimiliano Allegri next season.

Meanwhile, Di Marzio also reports that with Hernandez continuing to be paired with an exit too, Zinchenko has emerged as a potential solution to fill that void.

While the 28-year-old would bring a wealth of experience, quality and leadership, it has to be said that it would be a questionable replacement for a player of Hernandez’s level and the influence that he’s had on the team over the past five years.

It could be argued that Milan’s recruitment team can surely find a long-term and more effective option, but should they decide that Zinchenko is the right profile of player to not only replace Hernandez but suit Allegri’s system and preferred style of play, time will tell if a deal can be done to prise him away from Arsenal.

It’s shaping up to be a critical summer, and while it will be a blow to see any influential player leave, we have to get the recruitment spot on to ensure we’re more competitive next season.
