Benjamin Sesko could be playing in the red and white of Arsenal next season if a move for the 22-year-old is confirmed in the coming weeks.
football.london understands the Gunners are making advancements in their quest to sign the striker, who scored 21 goals in 45 appearances for RB Leipzig throughout the 204/25 campaign. Arsenal have outlined to Sesko how much of a priority he is for the north London side with the player scouted heavily in recent years.
Viktor Gyokeres has also been linked with a move to Emirates Stadium but it's thought that Andrea Berta, Mikel Arteta and other Arsenal chiefs favour a move for Sesko. The Slovenian has been at Leipzig for two years and it's believed he is now ready to make the next step in his career.
Sesko was one of the shining lights for Leipzig in what was a disappointing campaign, with the German side finishing seventh in the Bundesliga. After the final fixture of the season, Sesko took to Instagram to evaluate the previous 12 months.
"It’s been a difficult season for us. Sometimes in football things don’t go as we all want, and we all take responsibility for that," the striker said.
"Fighting for RB Leipzig shirt, badge, colours this season has been once again a massive honour, a source of pride. Thanks to the fans for your support during the season!"
Sesko is clearly passionate and has great pride in playing for RB Leipzig and would most likely demonstrate similar feelings at Arsenal if he were to make the move to the Premier League. The player has previously said he wants to play for a club that can bring the "best" out of him.
Speaking to German broadcaster Sport1, Sesko said: "The club has given me a lot and continues to give me a lot every day. It's a great club to develop at." Sesko also added that in the future, he wants to "play for a club that suits me, that brings out the best in me. That's the most important thing for me."
He added: "I’m currently a player for RB Leipzig, so I’m taking it day by day. If a transfer happens, and if it doesn’t, then it doesn’t."
Only time will tell as to whether Sesko moves to Arsenal in the summer transfer window. If a move is finalised, then Arteta and the Gunners will be getting a player who certainly craves success and ultimately trophies.
