How Tottenham could line up under Thomas Frank next season

[Tottenham Hotspur are on the verge of appointing Brentford gaffer Thomas Frank as a successor to Ange Postecoglou](https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6387946/2025/06/09/tottenham-thomas-frank-manager-next/).

The Dane has led the Bees to punch above their weight in the Premier League, and the hierarchy decided he is the man to take Spurs forward after a poor 2024/25 campaign.

Frank has the arduous task of galvanising this Tottenham group into a solid unit as they bid to contend for one of the European slots, preferably a UEFA Champions League place.

Read on as we analyse how the flexible and adaptable 51-year-old could set up this Tottenham team next season.

Guglielmo Vicario blew hot and cold last season but should take the starting berth between the sticks ahead of the young Antonin Kinsky, while the latter continues to learn the ropes.

In front of him, Frank has to make the notoriously porous Tottenham defence a compact unit.

Pedro Porro and Destiny Udogie are the first-choice full-backs and will likely be rampaging up and down the flanks.

However, with Atletico Madrid pursuing Cristian Romero, Spurs might have to enter the market for another centre-half to partner Micky van de Ven. Perhaps Kevin Danso could step up.

Atop Tottenham’s agenda this summer should be the signing of a defensive midfielder to anchor and screen the defence. They need a holding operator to add steel.

Yves Bissouma struggled in that role, and Rodrigo Bentancur was not the solution, despite doing a respectable job.

The team is crying out for a specialist to partner either Bentancur or Lucas Bergvall at the base of Frank’s preferred 4-2-3-1 set-up.

Chelsea’s Lesley Ugochukwu is an underrated option the club should consider. Bayern Munich ace Joao Palhinha might leave the Bundesliga giants and could be worth the punt.

With Son Heung-min potentially leaving this summer, Spurs must sign a lethal left-sided winger to replace the legendary South Korean.

[The club reportedly stepped up their interest in Antoine Semenyo, whom Frank hailed as a fantastic player back in November](https://whiteheartlane.com/spurs-step-up-interest-in-bournemouth-attacker-antoine-semenyo/).

This new addition will likely partner attacking midfielder James Maddison and Brennan Johnson or Dejan Kulusevski on the opposite flank.

Dominic Solanke, after a solid but underwhelming debut campaign in North London, will be desperate to leave his mark. He will lead the line for Frank next season.

**(4-2-3-1)**: Vicario; Porro, Danso, Van de Ven, Udogie; New DM, Bentancur; New winger, Maddison, Johnson; Solanke.
