Newcastle United 'free transfers' named in Premier League statement ahead of official…

Newcastle United are yet to confirm if the duo will be leaving on June 30.

The Premier League has published a list of players who are set to leave their respective clubs at the end of the month.

Newcastle United published their first-team and academy retained list on Friday, confirming the release of left-back Jamal Lewis and youngsters Jay Turner-Cooke, Ellis Stanton, James Huntley, Josh Donaldson and twin brothers Harry and Rory Powell.

There was also confirmation of Lloyd Kelly’s permanent move to Juventus. The 26-year-old joined the Magpies as a free agent last summer but after 14 appearances was loaned to the Serie A giants in January on loan with a £20million obligation to buy.

In addition, United confirmed goalkeeper Mark Gillespie had peened a new one-year extension while talks are still ongoing with Callum Wilson and John Ruddy. Unless new deals are agreed, the pair will officially depart on June 30.

A statement read: “Newcastle United can announce its retained list of men's first team players for the 2025/26 season.

“Callum Wilson and John Ruddy are set to be out of contract at the end of June, however the club has opened discussions with both players about their futures and new contracts could still be agreed.

Jamal Lewis will depart St. James’ Park upon the expiry of his contract this summer. Meanwhile, Lloyd Kelly’s loan move to Juventus will become a permanent transfer for an undisclosed fee on 30th June.

All other first team players are retained, with an option activated to retain goalkeeper Mark Gillespie following recent contract extensions for Fabian Schar, Emil Krafth and Dan Burn.”

Premier League publish Newcastle United’s ‘free transfers’ list

The Premier League has since confirmed all 20 clubs’ ‘released’ and ‘free transfers’ list ahead of the 2025-26 season, which features lists all the players mentioned above. However, that does not indicate a final decision on Wilson and Ruddy.

“Please note, players who will be signified as a "free transfer" or "released" will have their contracts expire on 30 June 2025 but could still remain at that club if a new contract is entered into, so this list should not be seen as definitive for players leaving their club,” the statement said.

“Please also note a player's status may have changed since the lists were submitted.”

Callum Wilson and John Ruddy latest

Wilson appeared to bid an emotional farewell to supporters after the final game of the campaign against Everton just over a fortnight ago.

The 33-year-old has scored 49 goals in 130 appearances since joining from AFC Bournemouth in 2020 for £20m but has endured a frustrating season with injuries, restricting him to just three starts. His only goal came in the FA Cup fourth round win away to Birmingham City, while his last Premier League goal was over a year ago in May 2024.

Wilson’s limited appearances means he did not automatically trigger a one-year extension. Newcastle have also passed up the option, instead entering talks over an incentive-based contract.

Meanwhile, Ruddy joined on a free transfer last summer after leaving Birmingham City and while he has never made a first-team appearances, the 37-year-old has been heavily praised for setting standards on the training pitch.
