Man Utd offer new contract to 18-year-old attacker, he hasn't played a minute since January

Manchester United will bid farewell to several players this summer, with multiple already confirmed to be set for release by the club.

With July 1st being universally recognized as the start of the new footballing year, it is often when contracts begin and end.

Manchester United are no different in this regard, with players’ contracts often set to expire on the final day of June, while signings like Matheus Cunha will likely not see their contract begin until the month passes.

Now, United have announced the retained list for this year, with 10 players confirmed as being axed.

Manchester United offer Ashton Missin a new contract

While there are numerous academy players confirmed to be departing the club, Ashton Missin is not joining them yet.

More United News

Missin is listed by the club in the ‘contracts’ section of the retained list sent to the Premier League on Monday, with the asterisk next to his name signifying he has an offer from United.

It was in July 2024 that Missin signed his first professional deal with United. Now, 12 months on, the club remains keen to hold on to the winger.

Missin, like other notable academy starlets, has struggled over the past 12 months with back-to-back injury problems, effectively preventing him from developing for an entire year, which has seen him plummet down the pecking order.

Despite injury concerns, Missin has scored at under-21 level for United despite still being 18, and when he plays, he often impresses. However, it remains a surprise that the club would want to renew his contract.

When did Ashton Missin last play for Manchester United?

During the 2024-25 season, Missin made 12 appearances, scoring once and assisting four, averaging a goal contribution almost every 100 minutes.

Missin’s best moment came against FK Zalgiris when he scored and assisted for United, however, he ended up injured not too long after.

Missin’s final appearance of the season came on the 18th of January when he managed 24 minutes before being withdrawn through injury, not appearing again in the campaign.

This again makes it a shock he has been offered a contract, but it speaks to how highly the club rates him. Hopefully, the 2025-26 season is kinder to the teenager.
