Newcastle United are plotting a move to sign Porto striker Samu Omorodion as Eddie Howe aims to improve his attacking options.
That is according to former Man United and Sunderland chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the Magpies’ scouts have been keeping tabs on the 21-year-old.
The forward’s performances both domestically and in Europe have garnered interest from a number of Premier League clubs this summer.
Football Insider revealed in March that Newcastle could sign Omorodion for less than his £82.5million release clause, although he will still cost a “huge” fee.
The Magpies are assessing their options in case Alexander Isak leaves despite growing confidence that he will stay, but any deal will not depend on the Swede’s future.
Brown told Football Insider in February that Callum Wilson will leave Newcastle upon the expiry of his contract, and Howe is keen to bring in a top-class replacement.

Newcastle plot Samu Omorodion move after Joao Pedro update
Brown told Football Insider on 31 May that Newcastle want to sign Joao Pedro from Brighton as Howe wants to add a second centre-forward to his squad.
The former scout who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, has insisted Omorodion is also on their list of ambitious targets this summer.
“Newcastle are assessing a number of avenues,” he told Football Insider.
“Eddie Howe wants to sign a new striker, not just in case Isak leaves because they’re confident he will stay, but because Callum Wilson is going.
“They want another top-class forward to give them another option.
“There aren’t too many of those available, but their scouts have been hard at work.
“One player they’re looking at is Samu from Porto, who has been impressive in Portugal and in Europe.
“He scored a couple of goals against Man United, so clubs will have taken note of that.
“Newcastle have been checking on him, keeping an eye on his performances, and then they will decide whether he is the one they want to move for.”

Mohammed Kudus update emerges after West Ham latest
The addition of a new striker is not the only aim for Newcastle this summer, as they are also eyeing a move to sign a new right-winger.
Football Insider revealed on 1 June that Newcastle want to sign Mohammed Kudus after missing out on Bryan Mbeumo, who looks set to join Man United.
Kudus, 24, has emerged as a target for a number of Premier League clubs this summer and could be allowed to leave West Ham for below his release clause.
Football Insider exclusively revealed on 31 May that Newcastle could sign Kudus at a discounted price should they make a move this summer.
