The latest transfer news and rumours from Manchester City and Manchester United
Manchester United and Manchester City have until 7pm Tuesday to wrap any transfer deals before the first part of the window closes.
United have taken advantage of the early window with the arrival of Matheus Cunha from Wolves. They are also keen to sign Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford but that deal could perhaps need to wait until next week to be officially completed. The window is only closed for six days as it opens on Monday, June 16 and will remain open until Monday, September 1.
Man City book medical for Rayan Cherki
Man City are also hoping to add Lyon ace Rayan Cherki to their squad before the Club World Cup. Fabrizio Romano reported a five-year deal has been agreed with the player and an initial fee has been struck with Lyon for around £29.5m with another £5m in add-ons. He added his “medical and contract signing” would take place on Tuesday. Barring any delays, City should register him in time for him to compete in the Club World Cup.
Cherki enjoyed an impressive season at Lyon with 12 goals and 20 assists in 44 games for the French club. In an interview with Le Parisien last week, his teammate and former Arsenal player Alexandre Lacazette heaped praise on the player.
He said: “What people might not know is that Rayan works really hard behind the scenes. He puts in a lot of extra training to stay fit and maintain a very healthy lifestyle. Before I met him, there were a lot of preconceived ideas about him — mostly negative, to be honest.
“A lot of questions too. From what I saw on TV, he was clearly a huge talent, and I kept wondering why he wasn’t getting more playing time.
“This 2024–2025 season has been incredible. It’s like something clicked in his mind over the summer; like he finally understood what he could bring to the team. The key factor, I think, was this mindset, ‘If I make the team shine, I’ll shine too’.”
Cristiano Ronaldo asks Al Nassr to sign Alejandro Garnacho
The likes of Bayer Leverkusen and Atletico Madrid have been linked as United look for around £50m to £60m for their academy graduate. According to Fichajes, Ronaldo has made the “express wish” that Al Nassr sign Garnacho as the former Real Madrid ace continues contract talks with the Saudi Pro League side.
The report adds that Al Nassr’s “almost unlimited financial power” means they could offer close to what United want for Garnacho. The Red Devils have around £100m to spend before player sales with any departures set to bolster Ruben Amorim’s funds to sign more stars to fit his system.
