Sky Sports: Man Utd now about to make bid to sign £70m 'beast'

Manchester United are expected to make an improved bid for Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo, Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth has revealed.

The Red Devils saw their first offer for the Cameroon international rejected by the Bees, who value Mbeumo at around £70m this summer.

However, United remain optimistic that a deal can be struck and are willing to offer a fee closer to Brentford’s valuation of the 25-year-old winger, who has also emerged as a surprise transfer target for Tottenham.

There is a growing feeling Thomas Frank may try to tempt Mbeumo to follow him to North London this summer if he takes over as Spurs head coach.

According to Sheth, Mbeumo is giving priority to a summer move to Man United, despite recent links with a potential reunion with Frank at Tottenham.

The 25-year-old 'beast' forward is expected to depart Brentford this summer after enjoying a career-best season, scoring 20 goals and providing eight assists in 38 Premier League appearances.

Mbeumo, who joined from French side Troyes in 2019, has just one year left on his contract at Brentford, although the club hold an option to extend it by a further 12 months.

Man United are aiming to continue their busy start to the summer window, having completed a deal to make Wolves star Matheus Cunha their first signing.

The Brazilian forward will arrive at Old Trafford on a five-year deal, after United agreed to pay his £62.5m release clause in instalments.

Alongside Cunha and Mbeumo, the Red Devils are expected to bring in a new number nine for Ruben Amorim as well, with Sporting Lisbon star Viktor Gyokeres remaining a top target.
