Luka Modric might be 39, but you would not have guessed it watching him against the Czech Republic.

Before returning to club duties with Real Madrid for the FIFA Club World Cup, the club legend put on a masterclass in midfield during Croatia’s dominant 5-1 win.

Modric’s brilliance came to life just after the scoreline was level at 1-1. The veteran stepped up confidently to convert a penalty, giving his team the lead with typical calmness and precision.

Moments later, Ivan Perisic made it 3-1 with a clever strike, before Ante Budimir added another from the spot. But Modric wasn’t finished.

Showing the vision that has defined his career, he threaded a perfectly weighted pass into the box for Andrej Kramaric to finish, an assist few would have seen, let alone executed.

That pass was a reminder of just how special Modric still is. After 80 minutes of top-level football, he came off to a standing ovation before he travels to Milan to complete a reported move to the Rossoneri.

Performance in numbers

His performance was not just about the goals and assists, as it was a full display of class. He finished with one goal and one assist, completed 70 of his 77 passes, and had 89 touches in total.

His pass accuracy stood at an impressive 91%. He also created one big chance, played three accurate long balls out of five, took four shots, and won all three of his duels.

Modric completed both of his dribbles and made four ball recoveries, controlling the midfield like he has done for over a decade.

For many, this may have been a farewell. But if it was, Luka Modric made sure he reminded the world why he is still one of the very best. Eternal isn’t just a word, it is Luka Modric.

The future of Diego Aguado has been a talking point at Real Madrid lately, especially amid interest from other European clubs.

A centre-back by trade, Aguado is regarded as one of La Fabrica‘s finest talents, who made his competitive debut for Real Madrid this past season.

Even though Aguado had signed a long-term contract extension at Real Madrid in April, his future at the club remains uncertain.

It was reported recently that Aguado has received a €6 million offer from Borussia Dortmund, who are willing to hand him a first-team contract.

Aguado tempted by Dortmund offer

According to Diario AS, Diego Aguado’s future at Real Madrid remains open, especially in the midst of Dortmund’s offer.

Although the youngster’s priority is to remain at Real Madrid, he is tempted by the ‘juicy’ offer from Dortmund.

A move to the Bundesliga, after all, may give him the opportunity to make his breakthrough in the first-team.

Aguado, therefore, is willing to wait and see what Real Madrid have to offer him next season before committing his future at the club.

Recent reports do suggest the young defender will become a part of Real Madrid’s FIFA Club World Cup campaign, which is a step in the right direction.

However, it is important for Xabi Alonso to give him proper game-time if the club are to keep hold of Aguado and not lose him to Dortmund this summer.

The coming few weeks, to that end, could prove to be critical for young Aguado as he looks to choose between joining Dortmund and staying at Real Madrid.
