Barcelona’s transfer focus for the left wing has taken a different turn, with reports from Mundo Deportivo confirming that their interest in Rafael Leao has faded.
The Portuguese winger, who currently plays for AC Milan, was once a serious target for the club. But things have clearly changed over the last year.
Barcelona have been open about their aim to strengthen the left flank. Club president Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco both spoke about the need for more quality in that area while reviewing the season.
That is why several wingers have been considered for transfer. Leao was one of them, especially during the final days of last summer’s window.
However, back then, financial fair play issues stopped Barcelona from making a move. Now, even though the situation has changed, the club’s interest in the AC Milan star has cooled down.
No longer the right fit

Leao, who scored 12 goals and provided 13 assists last season, was once valued at around €80–100 million.
Today, that figure is lower. His price drop is being seen as a reflection of his inconsistent form, even though he has produced flashes of brilliance. Despite his talent, he has struggled to maintain that level across the season.
Hansi Flick, along with the rest of the technical team, is now focused on building a squad that can compete for the Champions League title. The club wants players who can immediately make a difference.
They are no longer interested in spending big on names who are not guaranteed starters. Even with a lower asking price, Leao is not seen as a bargain anymore, and for a club with tight finances, every move must be smart and impactful.
In short, Leao is no longer a priority at Camp Nou.
