Sunderland are keen on Aston Villa left-back Alex Moreno along with Burnley, according to Spanish news outlet Fichajes.
Sunderland are being linked with a swoop for the defender this summer. SAFC are preparing for life in the Premier League following their promotion from the Championship.

Moreno, 32, spent this past season on loan at Nottingham Forest. He is now back at Aston Villa but his future is up in the air.
He has been with the Midlands outfit since 2023. The Catalonia international has since made 48 appearances for them in all competitions.
In this latest update regarding his situation, Fichajes claim he has emerged on the Black Cats radar. However, Burnley are also said to be in the frame as well as some teams in Spain.
After linking up with Nottingham Forest last year on a temporary basis, their Chief Football Officer Ross Wilson told their official club website: “Alex is a player we have had a long-standing interest in so we are naturally all very happy to see him arrive at Nottingham Forest today. He has amassed significant experience in La Liga and the Premier League, and he brings all of that quality and experience to our group now.”
Sunderland eye Alex Moreno transfer move
Sunderland could see Moreno as someone to boost their defensive department. If he joined SAFC, he would give them more competition and depth at the back.

He would also inject more experience into their squad. The full-back is under contract at Aston Villa until June 2026 meaning he still has 12 months left to run on his deal.
Prior to his move to England, he had spells in Spain with the likes of Barcelona, Real Mallorca, Rayo Vallecano, Elche and Real Betis. He played 122 matches for the latter and found the net on six occasions before his transfer to his current club.
What now for Sunderland and Alex Moreno?
Sunderland target Moreno appears to have fallen out of favour at Aston Villa now, hence why he was allowed to spend last term at Nottingham Forest. It remains to be seen at this stage whether SAFC will lodge an official approach for his services.

The Black Cats need to ensure that they get their recruitment right over the next couple of months. They may also need to see off competition from Burnley in pursuit of his signature.
Regis Le Bris’ side beat Sheffield United 2-1 in the play-off final last month. Eliezer Mayenda and Tommy Watson got their goals against the Blades at Wembley, whilst Tyrese Campbell was on the scoresheet for their opponents.
