Manchester United are desperate to improve their squad for manager Ruben Amorim and have a very busy transfer window in store.

The Red Devils have already snapped up Wolves' forward Matheus Cunha, triggering his £62.5m release clause. United have also bagged young defender Diego Leon from Cerro Porteno for a steal. However, a striker is still on the club's wish list before the summer's out.

Sporting Lisbon's Viktor Gyokeres has been frequently tipped for a move, but United might find themselves in a tug-of-war with Arsenal for his signature. Brentford ace Bryan Mbeumo is also firmly on the radar, but his current manager Thomas Frank's potential switch to Tottenham could throw a spanner in the works with talk of a reunion in North London.

The first summer transfer window is due to slam shut on Tuesday evening, so the club chief need to get cracking if they are to sign either of these forwards. With that in mind, here's the latest transfer talk from the red side of Manchester.

United's chances of landing Gyokeres have received a massive lift. As per L'Equipe, Saudi outfit Al-Hilal made a play for the forward after Napoli's Victor Osimhen gave them the cold shoulder.

The Saudi side are said to have dangled a whopping £30m-a-year deal to lure him to the Middle East. They also hinted to Sporting Lisbon that they'd be happy to cough up around £55m.

However, Gyokeres has knocked back that proposal and is set on remaining in Europe for the time being, reports the Mirror. United are still very much in the running for his services, along with Arsenal and Chelsea.

Hojlund deal hits a snag

If United manage to secure Gyokeres, they might need to offload a few of their current squad.

Old Trafford flop Rasmus Hojlund could be one heading for the exit door amid interest from Italy, but United's steep demands might be an issue.

Italian reports suggest United are holding out for a straight sale around the £40m mark, having blown £72m on the goalshy forward just two years ago. Inter Milan, Juventus and Napoli are keen but can only stretch to a loan deal.

Hojlund himself has recently voiced his thoughts on his future, insisting he's not looking to move.

He said: "I have a contract until 2030, so I expect to play for Manchester United. I'm looking forward to going on a summer holiday, and then I'm fully committed to the project that's underway.

"I know there's no point in paying attention to rumours. The fact is, I have a contract with Manchester United until 2030.

"I expect to play there, so I'm just gearing up for a summer break and hopefully a solid pre-season."

England legend Chris Waddle has dished out some tough love to Alejandro Garnacho, telling the young winger to "get on with it" amid rumours swirling about his future.

Waddle said: "Garnacho might look good in training, and maybe Ruben Amorim would want to pick him, but he doesn't. Garnacho talks like he's got a million games under his belt.

"We know he's a talented football player, but I think players at his age need to get their heads down, and if they're on the bench, well, that's a sign they need to improve to convince the manager. Just shut your mouth, get on with it.

"He's a young player with a lot of years ahead of him, and if a manager thinks you need pulling off, you accept it.

"He talks like he's a senior player in his late 20s, but right now he's still learning. There's talk of him going to Italy – let's see how that goes for him."
