Bayern Munich’s search for a winger is, at this point, pretty apparent. The club has been linked with the likes of Brighton FC’s Kaoru Mitoma and AC Milan’s Rafael Leão, but one of the most high-profile-and certainly the most Dutch- player to be linked to the German champions is Liverpool FC’s Cody Gakpo.
Away on international duty at the moment as Netherlands try to advance towards World Cup qualification, Gakpo was asked to speak on the Bayern links. However, he did not provide any updates: “I haven’t heard anything about it myself,” Cody Gakpo said via goal, as captured by @iMiaSanMia. “I’m closing myself off from it. Maybe my agent has heard something, but I’m focusing on myself.”
It is not hard to believe that the EURO 2024 joint Golden Boot winner would want to focus on his football at the moment (though at this point, it seems like there is no time to focus on anything else for these guys). Perhaps Bayern have contacted his agent, perhaps every rumor is completely false. Who knows? Until Gakpo returns from international duty at the earliest, it is unlikely we get any updates on that.
The latest edition of the Bavarian Podcast Works Show has dropped and we have a lot of say! In this episode, we close the book on the German national team and its disappointing performance in the UEFA Nations League Final Four (at least for now). We also discuss Bayern Munich’s quick work to secure Jonathan Tah and Tom Bischof for the Club World Cup, while also assessing the viability of Bayern Munich chasing Chelsea FC’s Christopher Nkunku and why that potential move might not be the perfect fit for what Bayern Munich needs.
