Chelsea are planning to reach a compromise which would see them move closer to AC Milan’s asking price in their efforts to sign Mike Maignan.
That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the Blues remain confident of reaching an agreement.
Enzo Maresca is determined to strengthen his squad before the Club World Cup begins and is targeting the France international goalkeeper as a key target.
This comes after talks were held with the Serie A giants, during which the two parties established the rough price needed to complete a deal.
Chelsea saw an initial £10million bid turn down by Milan earlier this month, as they plan to stick to their £20million valuation despite the belief a compromise will be reached.
Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed on 6 June that Chelsea could sell two of their current options, Robert Sanchez and Djordje Petrovic, if Maignan comes in.

Enzo Maresca pushing to complete Mike Maignan deal
Brown first told Football Insider in February that Chelsea want to sign a new goalkeeper and are prioritising the position amid suggestions of an overhaul.
The former scout who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, has insisted Maresca is determined to land a deal for the goalkeeper early in the window.
“Chelsea want a new goalkeeper, there’s no doubt there,” he told Football Insider.
“They’re not afraid of spending money and it looks like that is set to continue, so while they’re trying to bring the fee down, it’s not the be all and end all.
“They’ve been speaking to AC Milan about Maignan, and both parties know where they stand.
“Milan have their asking price, Chelsea have what they say they’re willing to pay.
“It seems to be that it’s in everybody’s interest to get this over the line, so in all likelihood a compromise will be reached.
“Chelsea will get closer to what Milan want, even if they don’t end up paying the full asking price.
“The manager wants a new goalkeeper, he wants to improve on what they’ve got at the moment and he wants to get it done early in the window.”

Trevoh Chalobah update emerges at Stamford Bridge
Incoming deals are not the only focus at Stamford Bridge this summer, as Maresca is also keen to shift some of his current first-team options.
Football Insider revealed on 10 June that Chelsea will sell other centre-backs, but plan to hold on to Trevoh Chalobah as things stand amid interest from Napoli.
The defender, who spent the first half of the season on loan at Crystal Palace before he was recalled, has been a consistent and reliable option under Maresca.
This comes after Brown told Football Insider Chelsea could listen to offers for Chalobah in an effort to raise funds and reinvest in their team.
