6x League Title Winner Now A 'Serious' Man United Target As Club Eye Onana Replacement

Manchester United have made Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen a “serious target”, according to reports.

The Red Devils have shown interest in the German international previously but TEAMtalk claim that doubts about his future at Barca have prompted Ruben Amorim’s side to revive their pursuit.

Ter Stegen is not expected to be first-choice at the Camp Nou next season, with the La Liga champions poised to sign Joan Garcia from rivals Espanyol for €25m (£21m).

It means several teams, including United, are now keeping tabs on the keeper’s situation, in anticipation that he will become available for transfer over the coming days and weeks.

Ter Stegen has been linked to other clubs

The 33-year-old (who has won six league titles with Barcelona) spent the majority of last season out injured and there has been growing speculation about his future.

Chelsea have also reportedly considered signing ter Stegen but they have subsequently switched their focus to snapping up AC Milan’s Mike Maignan.

Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal have been suggested as another potential destination as they are seeking a new keeper.

United have considered other replacements for Onana

The inconsistent performances of current no.1 Andre Onana have prompted the club’s recruitment team to look at potential alternatives.

In addition to ter Stegen, Aston Villa’s Emi Martinez, Lille’s Lucas Chevalier, Torino’s Vanja Milinkovic-Savic, Roma’s Mile Svilar, Parma’s Zion Suzuki, Brighton’s Bart Verbruggen and even Paris Saint-Germain’s Gianluigi Donnarumma have been mentioned as targets.

Of course, a lot still depends on the transfer budget. Any move for a new goalkeeper will hinge on outgoings, with the Red Devils keen to offload the likes of Jadon Sancho, Antony, Alejandro Garnacho and Marcus Rashford, in addition to Onana.
