Graham Potter struggled to give West Ham the lift they needed when he arrived at the London Stadium last season.

There is now plenty of pressure on the boss to get things right during the summer transfer window, in the hope of pushing his side further up the Premier League next term.

With PSR concerns hanging over the head of David Sullivan, though, the Hammers may have to offload some members of their squad this summer to finance new arrivals.

Mohammed Kudus price tag mooted

As West Ham prepare for their summer transfer business, one man who looks like he will be leaving East London is Mohammed Kudus.

Although his standards this season weren’t quite as high as the campaign prior, Kudus is keen on making a move elsewhere ahead of the new season.

Kudus did not reach the same levels this season.

There have been links to Liverpool, Chelsea and Saudi Arabia so far, but what could throw a spanner in the works is the attacker’s release clause.

A Saudi side were willing to offer close to £70million, although Kudus chose to turn down the chance to triple his wages overnight.

The Ghanaian’s contract has a £75million release clause, and Newcastle United are the latest side said to be considering a move to trigger that.

Speaking live on talkSPORT (10 June, 6:59 am), Jeff Stelling and Ally McCoist agreed that the asking price could be too high.

During the transfer Tinder segment of the breakfast show, Stelling admitted: “It’s a left for me. £75million is too much, I mean it is too much.

“I look at Newcastle and I’m thinking, would he get into the side on a regular basis? Probably, but they’ve got a lot of wide players, Anthony Gordon and Jacob Murphy, who had a wonderful season, Harvey Barnes as well, and look, Kudus is a very talented player.

“West Ham fans would be devastated to lose him, I think. So, I’ll swipe left.”

McCoist agreed as he replied: “West Ham fans would be devastated to lose him. I think he’d be an absolute superstar at Newcastle, but not for £75m.

“I’m with Jeff, I’m swiping left. The price tag is just too much.”

West Ham have to hold out on Kudus price tag

West Ham are in a bit of a difficult position when it comes to the future of Kudus this summer.

The Irons would welcome big money with open arms, as they could then reinvest and stay compliant with PSR regulations.

However, Kudus does have quality too, and if West Ham were able to up their standards on the pitch, he could well shine once more.

With that in mind, West Ham can’t let their valuation go too low, otherwise they will find themselves in a position with too little cash to replace the player they lost.

If the Irons are prepared to cash in this summer, it must be on their own terms.
