Man Utd have made an approach for Viktor Gyokeres with the three strikers who have been linked worth getting excited about.
The international break is almost over which means that club teams can get back to transfer business with Manchester United picking up the pace in recent days.
Between the sticks is an area that needs to be fixed, however, a real difference could be made by signing a prolific striker with Sky Sports providing an exciting update.
Man Utd make approach for Viktor Gyokeres
United have made an approach for Viktor Gyokeres, ending speculation that started when Amorim first took charge at Old Trafford. The Sweden international has been one of Europe’s most devastating forwards since moving to Portugal and could be the No.9 that United need.
A release clause of £84m has been widely reported and Gyokeres won’t be short of suitors this summer. The 6ft 2inch attacker scored an incredible 39 league goals in 33 appearances for Sporting Lisbon last season.
It is a new striker that fans covet the most though with a solid list of credible options now emerging. Gyokeres has excelled since leaving Coventry for Sporting CP. His old Sky Blues teammate Jake Bidwell piled the praise on him last season.
He told the Manchester Evening News: “With the way he plays as well, with his aggression, the two (qualities) go hand in hand with how well he has done. He all of a sudden realised how quick and strong he was and had the confidence to use it and mixed with the aggression, it’s made him pretty unstoppable,
The three strikers at the top of Ruben Amorim’s shopping list
United’s approach for Gyokeres to rejoin Ruben Amorim is an exciting one and it will be hoped that a lack of European football doesn’t put the Swede off. The 27-year old has scratched that itch with Sporting Lisbon and the chance to become the main man for a global giant might prove too hard to resist.
There have also been question marks about Gyokeres’ ability to score goals in a top league despite an impressive record at international level and six goals in eight games in the Champions League last season. His experience of English football probably has him at the top of the list of potential options.
It is a mindset that has stood Osimhen in good stead since leaving home to go to Europe and a £63 release isn’t one that United should be turning their nose up at.
He would be more expensive than Gyokeres but is two years younger and has proven that he can handle pressure at two football mad clubs where losing isn’t tolerated.
A host of Premier League clubs are set to battle it out for Porto’s Samu Aghehowa with United needing to pay an £84m release clause to open talks with the 21-year old striker.
Aghehowa scored 25 goals in all competitions which isn’t as many as the two more senior names linked. He does have time on his side though but after what he happened with Hojlund, a striker who isn’t the finished article is probably best avoided.
