M oussa Niakhaté says it is a dream to play at The City Ground once again as Senegal prepare to face England on Trentside on Tuesday night.
Niakhaté joined Forest ahead of the Club’s first season back in the Premier League in 2022, going on to make 37 appearances across all competitions for The Reds.
The defender, who established himself as a fans’ favourite during his time on Trentside, departed for Lyon last July, but could be in line to feature for his country as The City Ground prepares to host England for the first time in 84 years.
Niakhaté, of course, could come up against his former Forest teammate Morgan Gibbs-White on Tuesday night, and ahead of the game, the former spoke of his relationship with Forest’s number 10, as well as speaking of his delight to be back in Nottingham with his country.
“I’m really happy to be able to see Morgan tomorrow,” he said. “I’m really happy to be back at The City Ground as well, as this is a club that played a great part in my development. I was here for two years and it’s a dream to play here once again.
“When you leave a club, you always hope that one day you’re going to go back to that club. Imagine what it must feel like, to go back and play with my home country’s shirt on and play against England at The City Ground. It’s absolutely fantastic.
“Morgan and I are good friends, we arrived at Forest at the same time, we spoke a lot around the time when I unfortunately missed the World Cup in Qatar through injury and he was very supportive. We did have a bit of banter about how England beat Senegal in Qatar too!
“On Tuesday, for 90 minutes, he’s going to be a member of the opposition. Once the 90 minutes are over, we will continue our friendship.”
