Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres has taken a drastic step on social media ahead of ever increasing links to Manchester United this summer.

United are on the hunt for a centre-forward in the summer transfer window having suffered with a shortage of goals this season. Both Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee failed to hit double figures in the Premier League.

Since Ruben Amorim arrived at United in November, the Reds have been heavily linked with the striker thanks to the Portuguese head coach's existing relationship with the forward. On Monday, Sky Sports News reported that the Reds had made their first approach to Gyokeres.

It is claimed that United have contacted the player's intermediaries to discuss the finances associated with a deal for the 27-year-old. While this is merely the first, elementary step towards signing the striker, it appears that Gyokeres has added more hope for Reds fans this week.

As first spotted by Portuguese outlet Record, Gyokeres has removed all references to Sporting and Sweden from his Instagram bio. Previously, the striker mentioned that he represented both clubs, but now it merely states that he is a 'Sportsperson'.

Gyokeres last posted on the social media platform last week when he thanked his friends, family and followers for their birthday wishes. This post was immediately hijacked by United fans asking him to join their club this summer.

Along with the report from Sky, Fabrizio Romano adds that Gyokeres does remain on the shortlist for the Reds but they will likely need to sell players including Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho before they can advance in their approach for the Swede.
