Newcastle United are in talks with Burnley to sign goalkeeper James Trafford this summer, according to Sky Sports News.
The Magpies are looking to strengthen their squad after qualifying for the UEFA Champions League for the 2025/26 season, while they enjoyed a fantastic campaign as they ended a 70-year trophy drought in the process.
Big changes are expected in Eddie Howe's squad now with PSR restrictions lifted, and the club are looking to bring in a new, young goalkeeper to push.

James Trafford in action for Burnley
Trafford, who was described as "world-class" by manager Scott Parker this season, turned in a record-breaking season for Burnley in the Championship in 2024/25 as he helped the club to earn promotion by keeping 29 clean sheets in 45 appearances - with just 16 goals conceded.
That came after Newcastle came close to signing him last summer as a back-up option for Nick Pope, before terms couldn't be agreed on a price following Burnley's relegation.
But with lots of change expected in the goalkeeping department, the club are looking to revitalise a deal for the 22-year-old and Sky Sports say the two clubs are now in active talks over a deal.
"Lets just bring you a bit of breaking news on someone who is in Thomas Tuchel's England squad at the moment, Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford.
"Newcastle are in talks to sign him. They're hoping to have him and Nick Pope competing to be the Newcastle number one next season. Burnley are understood to value Trafford at £30m. Newcastle one of those clubs who need to maintain their financial discipline a little bit, so negotiations over the fee are currently taking place. But Trafford is a player that Eddie Howe has had long-term admiration and interest in, and Newcastle are looking to tempt Burnley with a bid for goalkeeper James Trafford, who was so influential in Burnley's promotion last season from the Championship."
The Magpies are expected to be able to keep hold of their top stars this summer following their qualification for Europe's premier competition, and they're now looking to add further quality to ensure they don't drop off in the 2025/26 season.
