Arsenal face competition from Saudi Arabia for priority striker target

Benjamin Sesko won’t play for Slovenia on Tuesday due to injury, as Al-Hilal join frontrunners Arsenal in the race for his transfer from RB Leipzig.

Ryan Taylor reports that Benjamin Sesko will not play in tonight’s friendly match for Slovenia, following RB Leipzig’s request to exclude him due to a minor injury setback. Sesko’s 2024/25 campaign is now over, and he can fully focus on sorting out his future.

In addition to Arsenal, James Benge reported for CBS Sports on Monday that Al-Hilal have Sesko on their summer shortlist.

The Saudi Pro League club are currently focusing on a move for Victor Osimhen, but if that fails, they could turn to Sesko.

Yet Fabrizio Romano reports that despite the interest from Saudi Arabia, Sesko’s priority is to continue playing in Europe.

Both Taylor and Romano report that further talks between Arsenal and RB Leipzig will be held this week, and it seems the player would prefer to join the Gunners than to make a potentially lucrative move to Saudi Arabia.

Leipzig are looking to bring in more than €80m for Sesko’s transfer, but there hasn’t been a breakthrough in negotiations with Arsenal just yet.

Arsenal have been pushing for Sesko for a while now, making prior attempts to sign him in the summer of 2024 and January 2025.

The striker scored 21 goals for Leipzig in 2024/25, assisting a further six, as well as scoring five goals in eight games for Slovenia.
