Liverpool supporters to head to the Netherlands for Ronnie Moran Hillsborough Memorial Weekend

Originally formed because of the friendship that developed between Liverpool and FC Utrecht fans over 13 years ago when they met in the Europa League, the charity weekend alternates each year between Woerden and Liverpool.

The Ronnie Moran Hillsborough Memorial Weekend is set to return to Woerden, Netherlands this week (June 13 and 14).

Originally formed because of the friendship that developed between Liverpool and FC Utrecht fans over 13 years ago when they met in the Europa League, the charity weekend alternates each year between Woerden and Liverpool.

The two sets of fans compete in a charity match and it has grown into a huge publicised event, raising over £51,000.

Following the conclusion of the Hillsborough Justice Campaign in 2022, the weekend was renamed after Ronnie Moran and his legacy at Liverpool Football Club, while also remembering the 97 supporters who lost their lives.

Ronnie Moran spent almost half a century at the club as a player, reserve-team coach, physio, first-team coach, assistant manager, caretaker manager and founding member of the Boot Room, forming a major part of trophy wins.

He had been a supporter of the charity weekend himself, and had attended on several occasions.

The match will raise money for the LFC Foundation, Jamie Carragher’s 23 Foundation, and Dementia UK, a charity chosen by Ronnie’s son Paul.

It is set to be a memorable event, with an auction and various raffles throughout the weekend helping to raise funds.

Liverpool FC supporters beat their Dutch opponents 4-0 in the 2024 match, and will be hoping to retain the trophy away from home, especially in the year that Liverpool have been crowned Champions of England.
