Newcastle United now 'offered' chance to sign England defender who turned nose up at move 12…

As Newcastle United continue to weigh up their options for a new centre-back, with Marc Guehi firmly back in their sights, they could now be handed an opportunity to sign a player they've admired for a while.

Last summer, as well as Marc Guehi, Newcastle were persistently linked with moves for AC Milan stars Malick Thiaw and Fikayo Tomori.

The rumours around Thiaw really gathered pace, and at one point it felt like there could be actual movement on the German international.

As we all know far too well, that deal never came to pass, nor did a deal for any centre-back last summer.

Fikayo Tomori is back on the agenda

Newcastle could be offered the chance to sign Fikayo Tomori this summer

Meanwhile, a move for Fikayo Tomori never got very far due to the fact that the player distanced himself from a move, saying he didn't feel a move to Newcastle would represent a step forward in his career.

12 months later, and 27-year-old Tomori has seen his star fall in Milan, and as such, The Chronicle are now reporting that the 27-year-old could be offered to Premier League clubs as he looks for a route back to the Premier League.

The report states that the former Chelsea man is content to stay at Milan, but would jump at the chance to move back to England. We guess it just depends on who he deems worthy.

Fikyao Tomori has five England caps

Capped five times by England, Tomori looked like the future of England's defence at one point, but despite often putting in solid displays for Milan, he dropped off the international radar.

Tomori was brilliant for Milan when they faced Newcastle in the Champions League in the season before last, so we're more than happy if we opt to move for him, especially as Milan could take considerably less than the £42 million we were quoted last year.

A few solid performances in black and white would banish the thought of those 'backwards step' comments - maybe.
