'My own doing': Dominic Calvert-Lewin shares one regret has has involving Everton fans as exit…

Everton are now set to see Dominic Calvert-Lewin depart the club as a free agent.

After weeks of discussions, David Moyes will now be looking for a new number nine ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

Everton are prioritising a new striker this summer and were prepared to make a move with Calvert-Lewin’s future up in the air.

Although Beto showed some signs of form, it was another difficult campaign for Everton in front of goal.

And it has now been decided that Calvert-Lewin will leave Everton as he is set to test out his options as a free agent.

However, ahead of his imminent exit, the 28-year-old striker has now admitted to one big regret he has when it comes to the fans.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin shares major regret with Everton fans

Everton were keen to keep Calvert-Lewin for the move into the new stadium having made him a number of contract offers.

It has not been an easy past few years for the striker but he has admitted there is something he did which has not helped his cause.

Speaking on the High Performance podcast, Calvert-Lewin shared his regret over his involvement in commercial projects outside of football.

“Despite what Everton fans probably thought about me at that time because whether I like it or not. It was probably my own doing that added to the narrative that football wasn’t as important to me as it was due to the commercial stuff I was doing at the time,” he said.

“Which again, you’re young but hindsight is a wonderful thing. I mistimed – alongside the injuries – some of the commercial things I was doing. If you’re doing well on the pitch no one cares what you do as long as you’re scoring goals. But the moment you stop scoring goals or things start to go wrong, it’s perceived in a not-so-good way. It’s ‘get back to football, focus on training’.

“I did some commercial stuff which was put out at a time not in my control. So, I’d done it months before and it came out at a time when I was injured and I remember this feeling of dread of knowing what it was going to be met with. I’m not really sure why I did it.”

Moyes was working on a new deal for Calvert-Lewin with the striker open to listening to offers to remain on Merseyside.

But it now looks as if his time with the Blues has come to an end.

Everton need a striker without injury issues

Of course, no footballer can be signed without the prospect of picking up injuries along the way.

However, Calvert-Lewin’s injury record was a huge issue during his time on Merseyside.

Everton are showing an interest in re-signing Richarlison this summer following three years away in north London with Tottenham Hotspur.

The Brazilian has also endured his own injury issues during his spell with Spurs which will surely provide some concerns among those at Finch Farm.

Everton are in need of a new striker, but they must make a sensible choice ahead of the new campaign.
