Manchester United have prioritised the attack this summer so far, but the midfield is also set for reinforcement.
The first stage of the summer transfer window slams shut on Tuesday, before opening again on the 16th of June, remaining open until the 1st of September.
Manchester United already has one signing completed, with Ineos agreeing to sign Matheus Cunha for £62.5m split over three years.
It is widely assumed that United are pushing to add Bryan Mbeumo next, with talks over a deal ongoing with Brentford for the past week.
Additionally, United have made contact to sign Viktor Gyokeres to bolster the striker position. Following this, the centre of midfield will likely be looked at with Christian Eriksen gone and Casemiro remaining a potential sale to Saudi Arabia.
There is one clear contender to be signed in the midfield positions by United this summer, and now his asking price has been slashed.

The report claims that the Saudi Arabian sides are keen on Ederson, while Atalanta are now looking at bids which are between £33.7m and £38m, which is a drastic reduction on the initial asking price the Serie A side had.
This follows reports that United were willing to pay £51m for Ederson just last month, and so the 35 per cent reduction in price tag should be very tempting for Ineos.
Atalanta are seeking to replace Ederson with Matt O’Reilly from Brighton, and so it would be assumed that the sale will be completed soon, whether that will be to United remains to be seen.
How would Ederson fit into Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United?
Signing a player of Ederson’s quality for just £33.7m would be potentially the bargain of the summer.
The Brazil international is arguably the best midfielder in Italy right now, and is incredibly well-rounded, boasting strong creation and passing from deep.
Ederson has been compared with PSG sensation Vitinha and also Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali by FBRef, which are two excellent players to be compared with, and show that the 25-year-old would be a perfect match for what Amorim needs in a midfielder.
Partnered with Manuel Ugarte, United could have a solid midfield pairing who are physical and well-rounded. While Ederson’s strong aerial qualities will also make him a good fit in the Premier League.
Ederson would also be a good fit next to Kobbie Mainoo or Bruno Fernandes, as he would be able to play in the deeper parts of the pitch, helping with build-up before giving the ball to his more offensive teammates.
